It’s important with a family law matter to ensure that you utilise appropriate experts to assist in getting a fair outcome for yourself and or the other party.
Going through a divorce or separation is an emotional time, and sometimes you are not the one in the relationship who managed the finances.
Below are the roles we can assist you with.
Single Expert
As a single expert we prepare an independent report on financial matters in family law or elder abuse matters.
The main reports we can and have prepared include;
- Forensic report on investment performance
- Taxation advice regarding the sale of assets as part of a proposed settlement
- Formal business valuations
- Forensic reports on tracing where money has been allocated, transferred or spent.
Shadow Expert
As a shadow expert we act for you the individual. Our services are important where your accountant has a conflict and can no longer act for both of you, or you are seeking some independent advice regarding the assets disclosed.
We can also advise on the tax payable where certain assets are sold, or to ensure you are aware of the future tax liability of assets you choose to take on as part of the settlement.
As a shadow expert if there is a business we can also provide you with an indication of the value of the business. This is often valuable in the early stages when you are seeking to understand if a formal valuation is required.
As a shadow expert we work with you, and your lawyer to assist in the process and to also ensure that once you reach an agreement we can support you in ensuring the orders are implemented as documented.
Collaborative Law
Ingrid and Melissa have trained in collaborative law and have participated in collaborative law process as an independent financial or as a financial support for an individual.
The collaborative law process can assist with reducing the costs of the family law process. Each party must commit to the process by contract rather than going to court.
We have found this process to be a positive approach and recommend you discuss this with your lawyer.
